Why FSBO?

What is "For Sale By Owner" (FSBO) and how can it help you?

FSBO is a process for those who wish to buy and sell their own homes without a real estate agent in broker. Sellers get to save tens of thousands of dollars in agent commissions. Buyers get to see homes their real estate agents can't find, often at a reduced price. Have others used this process? How about more than 770,000 people in 2006! That is how many homes were sold by owner last year alone -- a number that has remained constant over the years.

How much do agent commissions cost you? Typically, 6-7% of the sale price. On a $300,000 condo, that's $18,000-$21,000. On a $700,000 house, that's $42,000-$49,000. Wouldn't you rather keep that money and do the work yourself? You could pay off your debts, put a child through college, or remodel another home. We think it's worth the effort!

FSBO is here to stay. It is a time-tested, proven model that allows consumers to save more of their own money. Today, nearly one in every five homes sold is a FSBO property. That is why Parade Magazine just cited (April, 2007) as their number one myth in real estate that you need a licensed agent or broker to sell your home.

To learn more about FSBO, go to our Resources page for helpful articles and links. We have also included a "Buyers Guide" and "Sellers Guide" to familiarize you with the major steps and procedures of buying and selling your own home. Welcome to the exciting world of FSBO!
